The woman’s financial advisor recently notified her about the check for $5,200 because it seemed suspicious. The check was cashed on April 9 at a bank in New Jersey. The woman said she hadn’t written a check from that account to anyone. She looked in her checkbook and found that the two checks had been removed from it.

A 40-year-old Bronx man accused of stealing an unlocked SUV from a driveway on Sedgwick Avenue and entering a home on Overbrook Lane the same night two months ago has been arrested, Darien police said. The initial report from a woman who saw the burglar dashing out of her house was that it was a female, but the man who was arrested on Tuesday and who was taken to court Wednesday morning told police he had committed the crimes alone. Police gave this account of what happened, including accusations not proven in court:

“Through investigative means,” police said in their announcement on Wednesday, they found evidence against Casey J. Gagnon of Bryant Avenue in the Bronx. Police were granted an arrest warrant by a judge, and New York City police took Gagnon into custody. On Tuesday, Darien police detectives took custody of Gagnon in New York County Court in Manhattan after he waived extradition.
