Summer School Off to a ‘Smooth Start,’ Brenner Says

Right after Darien Public Schools ended the regular school year on Thursday and teachers wrapped up their school year on Friday, summer school opened at Darien High School the next weekday, this past Monday. Schools Superintendent Dan Brenner told the Board of Education that work was done over Saturdays and Sundays to get ready for summer school, but the effort paid off. “Summer school has started, and I’m pleased to report it’s been a really smooth start,” he said. “It was a monumental task, given the fact that [the last day of] school [was] pushed out because of the snow days, and so we moved on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and then we started again on Friday, Saturday and Sunday — because there was so much to do — and then we started on Monday. “We were able to start the summer the way we we’re supposed to start the summer.”
