This Friday, Gunsmoke, a homegrown band is set to perform at the Grove Street Plaza at 6 p.m. as part of the Darien Summer Nights concert series. Gunsmoke has been playing for many different audiences for over 25 years, including two sitting presidents of the United States and the world famous Ernest Tubb’s Midnight Jamboree in Nashville, following the Grand Ole Opry. With six recorded albums under their belt, Gunsmoke was inducted into the Connecticut Country Music Hall of Fame, and was elected band of the year six years in a row by the New York Metro Country Music Association. __________

The band was created by Nick DeMaio Jr. and his younger brother Jeff, and for many years they were joined by their father, Nick Sr. The band continues to welcome younger family members into the band, with Christina Mae and Nick DeMaio III joining the tradition. The family affair is joined by lead guitarist Van Mankas and expert fiddler Fooch Fischetti.

A special benefit concert by the “Spadtastics”, a Darien-based, Grateful Dead cover band takes place from 6 to 10 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26 at Tilley Pond Park. Money raised will go to help a Darien man paralyzed with a spinal cord injury earlier this year. __________

The outdoor concert is part of the Darien Summer Nights series but takes place at the park rather than at Grove Street Plaza.

Former CBS recording artist Manny DeMagistris of BB Abode Home Decor in Darien & North Salem, N.Y. fronts an all star line up of musicians that have played and toured with Hall & Oates, Todd Rundgren, Bette Midler, Jeff Beck and many others. About the Darien Summer Nights concert series

Baywater Properties and Grove Street Plaza are encouraging people to come out this summer to Grove Street Plaza in downtown Darien for evenings of music. The concerts are Friday nights 6 to 8:30 p.m. and all are free of charge. The concerts are being funded by Baywater Properties and Grove Street Plaza, through the support of our retail tenants and the Darien Chamber of Commerce.

Gunsmoke has been entertaining audiences at fairs, festivals, clubs, and concerts, with true Country and Western Music for over 20 years. They have performed with musical legends such as, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Ray Price, Hank Thompson, Alan Jackson, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Buck Owens, Carl Perkins, and countless other country legends. On Friday, June 24, 2016, The Spadtastics and the Kind Buds will star in a benefit concert for the families of Mark Zengo and Larry “Leo” Cochrane, starting at 6 p.m. at Tilley Pond Park in Darien. The event will honor the memory of two former 1982 Darien High School graduates and friends who died suddenly last summer, three weeks apart. Proceeds will be donated to the education funds for the Zengo and Cochrane children. “We’re really excited to be playing this benefit,” said Mary McGee, a vocalist for the Spadtastics. “We all went to school with Mark and Leo, and can’t think of a better way to honor their lives, and their families.

Singer-songwriter P.J. Pacifico plays at 6 p.m. tonight as this year’s Darien Summer Nights concert series kicks off at Grove Street Plaza. Pacifico, who has played in the series before, “delivers a confident, upbeat collection of road-tested rock/pop music,” according to the concert organizers’ website. Pacifico’s music is described by Darien Summer nights as “a radio-friendly sound that evokes Gin Blossoms and Matthew Sweet, and a storyteller’s cadence that has been compared to James Taylor.
