Stuart Schwengerer, previously a sergeant in the Darien Police Department, has been promoted to lieutenant, Chief Jeremiah P. Marron Jr. announced Friday on Facebook. — an announcement from Darien Police Department

A formal promotion ceremony will take place but hasn’t been scheduled yet, said Marron. Schwengerer has been on the police force for 22 years and is currently a supervisor in the Patrol Division. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he previously held positions on the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team, the Darien Police Honor Guard, and the Marine Division. “He has training in crisis intervention, is a long standing firearms and patrol rifle instructor, use of force instructor, and also is an instructor for the department in blood borne pathogen incidents.

On Friday, Darien Police Department announced the hiring and swearing-in of a new officer, Katrina Cook, who’s been working in the fitness industry for the past 14 years. Officer Cook will be going through firearms and administrative training, and soon beginning a “comprehensive and rigorous training program at the newly established Stamford Police Academy,” according to the department’s announcement on Facebook. Cook was born in Brooklyn, New York and spent her early years in Orange County, New York. A dedicated athlete, she earned a full athletic scholarship to play soccer at Southern Connecticut State University, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in exercise science and human performance in 2010. She worked for Equinox fitness clubs for nine years in various management roles and as a personal trainer.
