Helen Virginia Poe Goodrich passed away on March 7 at Atria Darien. She was five weeks shy of her 101st birthday. Helen was born in Tacoma, Wash. on April 12, 1916. She was known for her radiant smile, sense of fun and a zest for life.
Mrs. Kathleen P. Rae, of Darien, passed away peacefully on the evening of March 7, 2017, at Stamford Hospital. Mrs. Rae, the daughter of Nicholas Perone and Elsie Fitzgerald, was born on Jan. 22, 1936 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1954 and earned her B.A. in education from The University of Delaware in 1958. After her graduation from college, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she taught elementary school and loved her fourth grade.
Phyllis Jane Cooper Meyer, 97, died in Tampa Fl. on March 1. She was 97. She was born in Kalamazoo, Mich. on June 30, 1919, grew up in Kalamazoo and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1941.
Devers, Edward Norman Devers, 93, of Sarasota, Fl. passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26. Born on March 2, 1923 in Queens, N.Y., he had been a local resident of Sarasota for 28 years after moving here from Darien. Mr. Devers served in the U.S. Navy in WWII with pride and honor and separated from the Naval Reserve as a master chief.
Rosemary McNulty of Stamford passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, Feb 28 at the Waveny Care Center in New Canaan. She was 71. She was a former co-owner of Fredric & Co. salon in Darien, where she worked for many years before her retirement. Rosemary also worked for many years as a realtor in Stamford.
Sigmund John Montgomery, age 96, a Darien resident for about 70 years, passed away peacefully February 27, 2017 at Waveny Care Center with his loving wife Ruth by his side. John was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on July 10, 1920, and grew up in Katonah, N.Y. He earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Columbia in 1942, then served in the Eighth Air Force, assigned to General Dwight Eisenhower’s staff in England and France. He left the military as a Major with a Bronze Star in 1946. After the war, John returned to Columbia, becoming an assistant professor at Columbia’s Engineering School in 1948, teaching there till 1959. John moved to Darien in 1947, and began consulting in management and engineering.
Raquel Johanna Fetchin, age 47 of Stratford, formerly of Darien and Stamford, passed away, Monday, Jan. 23 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center after a long battle with acute lymphoid leukemia. She was the beloved wife of Douglas Fetchin for 23 years. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of Norma Aymerich and the late Andres Arroyo both of San Juan.
Susan Ott Faulkner, 88, longtime resident of Darien and wife of the late John Charles Faulkner, 3rd, peacefully passed away on Feb. 21 at Ashlar Village, Wallingford. Born to Robert J. and Ruth Kaiser Ott, she grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from the Western College for Women. In 1952 she moved to Keene, N.H., met and married Jack, and moved to Darien in 1958 where they raised their family. Susan was a passionate gardener, active community member, and enthusiastic lover of music.
Dolores Deran Dwelle of Darien passed away on Feb. 21 at Norwalk Hospital after a brief illness. She was 88. Born in 1928, Dolores was raised in Darien as the middle child of the five children of Leon and Elizabeth Deran. Dolores attended Darien High School (class of 1946) and worked in her father’s photography business.
Elizabeth “Betsy” Trifone, 84, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, Feb. 20. She was the devoted wife of the late Alfred Trifone who passed in Nov. 2011. Her son, Robert Trifone, is head football coach at Darien High School.
Agnes Cecilia Margaret Dudley, known as “Babs” by family and friends, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 91 years old. Babs was born in 1925 in Paris, France. She was the eldest of six children born to the late Guy and Cecilia Hucks. Although both her parents were English, her family lived in Paris and Babs attended French schools.
Ninfa R. Trehubenko, age 99, beloved wife of the late Michael Trehubenko, passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, at Autumn Lake Health Care in Norwalk. Mrs. Trehubenko was born on July 19, 1917 and was a daughter to the late Augusto and Priscilda Colombano. She was a professional baker and owned the Darien Bake Shop and Delite Bakery in Stamford along with her late husband. She is survived by her loving daughter, Jeannie Gelineau of Indiantown, Fl.; a step-daughter, Barbara Costanzo, and her husband August and their children and grandchildren; grandchildren, Janice Kern and her husband Jerome of Wilton and Jay Telesco of Norwalk; great-grandchildren, Matthew Kern, Dylan and Tyler Telesco, as well as many nieces and nephews.
John Ross Hamilton, 92, a resident of Darien, passed away Feb. 15, 2017 after a short illness in Bennington, Vt. Born Oct. 3, 1924 in Winchendon, Mass., John was the youngest child of May Davina Ross Hamilton and The Reverend Rollo Albert Hamilton. An active member of Boy Scout Troop One in Flushing, N.Y., founded in 1910 by Daniel Beard and the Rev. Hamilton, John earned the rank of Eagle Scout and attended college with the support of an Eagle Scout Scholarship.
Paul Damon Littlefield, 96, of Annisquam, Mass., died Feb. 10, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Lucy “Jackie” (Boyd) Littlefield and the late Emmy (Neiley) Littlefield. Mr. Littlefield was born June 8, 1920 in Cambridge, Mass. He was the the son of the late Walter Joseph Littlefield and Sally Pastorius Littlefield.
Marilyn M. Roper, a resident of Darien since 1964, passed peacefully from death to life on Feb. 15. She is now united in heaven with her husband of 35 years, Leslie Harvey Roper of Stamford and Darien. Marilyn was born in Stamford on June 22, 1924, the only daughter of the late Romer John Myers of Pound Ridge, N.Y. and Mary Carpenter Myers of White Plains, N.Y. Marilyn served her country as a chief petty officer in the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II. Marilyn met her future husband while she and her girlfriend were driving on West Avenue in Darien.
