Window Broken, Purse Stolen from SUV Sunday Afternoon in Darien YMCA Parking Lot

A window was smashed and a purse containing a checkbook and credit cards was stolen from the center console of an SUV parked Sunday afternoon at the Darien YMCA, police were told. The victim told police she had parked her gray 2012 Toyota Sienna in the lot at the Y from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 5. When she returned, she found the front passenger’s side window broken out. The purse, valued at $350, was missing.

Window Smashed, Bag Holding Money Taken from Restaurant Parking Lot

A window of an SUV was smashed and a tote bag with cash in it was stolen Sunday evening in the middle of a restaurant’s parking lot on the Post Road. The victim told police that she parked her 2017 Toyota Sienna in the lot of Bertucci’s Restaurant at 54 Post Road at about 6 p.m., had dinner and returned at about 8:49 p.m.

She found the front, passenger-side window had been smashed and the tote bag on the front seat was gone. The glove box was opened, as well. In the tote bag: a passport, house keys, various bank cards, an iPad mini, a check book and $300 in Canadian currency worth about $234 in U.S. dollars (with the current exchange rate of $1 Canadian dollar to 78 U.S. cents). No other vehicles in the lot were broken into.

Car Damaged in Apparent Burglary Attempt

A Herman Avenue resident told police that his black 2010 Chevrolet Malibu recently was damaged in an apparent burglary attempt. The matter was reported to police on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The owner said he hadn’t noticed the damage until a neighbor mentioned that recently there had been numerous thefts from cars in the neighborhood. The car had been locked and no entry was made by any thief.

Window of BMW Smashed on Old Kings Hwy North — Thief Got Next to Nothing

A window was smashed by a thief to get entry into a car parked in a lot off of Old Kings Highway North sometime in the late morning Sunday, Jan. 7. The thief didn’t get anything of much value: six months of the victim’s pay stubs in the glove box and two empty bank bags on the back seat, according to Darien police. Police gave this further account of what happened:

The victim parked his 0 BMW X6 at the Old Kings Highway Tennis Club at  Old Kings Hwy. North at about 10:30 a.m. When he returned to the car at 12 noon, he saw that the rear driver’s side window was smashed and the glove box was open. The car was locked and was the only one known to have been broken into.
