A panel discussion titled “Women Elected to Lead Change in Connecticut: How Women in Hartford are Navigating Politics, Advancing Policy and Leading the Way for Others,” will include state House Minority Leader Themis Klarides (R) and three other female state legislators. You’ll need to get your ticket by Tuesday, Nov. 5, if you’re going to the lunchtime event on Nov. 14 at the Waters Edge at Giovanni’s , says the organizer of the event, the Darien League of Women Voters. Other statehouse legislators on the panel will be Rep. Cristin McCarthy-Vahey (D), state Sen. Mae Flexer (D) and Sen. Heather Somers (D).

Come meet and question candidates for Darien local offices about issues important to you. They’ll be at Town Hall Auditorium starting at 7 p.m., Wednesday night, Oct. 23. Secretary of the State Denise Merrill will be at the Darien League of Women Voters meeting on Wednesday morning, Oct. 2 to discuss maintaining election integrity in Connecticut. The event is free and open to the public. The group will be meeting at the Piedmont Club, 152 Hecker Ave. The program begins with a coffee reception at 9:30 a.m. and presentation at 10.

The Darien League of Women Voters will hold its Annual Meeting at the Darien Community Association (DCA) 274 Middlesex Road on Thursday, June 6. There will be a short business meeting at 12 noon and high tea and speaker at 1:00 pm. The speaker will be Kate C. Farrar, executive director of the Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund. She will discuss the many women’s issues that dominate the news today. Prior to her present position Ms. Farrar was vice president of the American Association of University Women’s campus leadership program in Washington, D.C. She also served as associate director of national programs of wider opportunity for women.

The reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m.

Participants will include: First Selectman, Jayme Stevenson; Board of Finance Chairman Jon Zagrodzky; Board of Education Chairman Tara Ochman; Planning and Zoning Commission Vice Chair Steve Olvany and Representative Town Meeting Moderator Seth Morton. Each of the speakers will discuss the work of their respective boards and share their perspective on important issues facing Darien. There will be time for questions following the presentation. The program is free and open to the public.
