The Darien League of Women Voters compiled this 2020 Voters’ Guide by questioning candidates for local, state and federal offices and compiling their answers. The election takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Responses were limited to a specific word count and are published exactly as submitted by the candidates, the League said. The order of offices on the Voters’ Guide is the same as on the ballot.

The Darien Library and the Leagues of Women Voters of Darien and New Canaan will present “Voting During Covid 19,” an online discussion featuring Secretary of the State Denise Merrill, on Thursday, Sept. 10. Americans have a superpower: voting. Democracy’s most constructive mechanism for self-improvement, voting is every citizen’s right, privilege, and civic duty. So how can we make sure we vote safely during COVID-19?

‘One Woman, One Vote’ Documentary on Women’s Suffrage at Darien Library

The program is free and open to the public. Thanks to the Darien Library for making this possible. The film, narrated by Susan Sarandon, chronicles the battle for women’s suffrage from the convention at Seneca Falls in 1848 to the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920. The compelling influence of major players in the suffrage movement, including Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony and Alice Paul is a highlight of the 106 minute video.
