Darien’s town fireworks display has been postponed from Saturdsy to Sunday because of expected bad weather, the Darien Parks and Recreation Department announced. The same times of day apply on Sunday as were originally announced for Saturday, including gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks shortly after dark — expected to be at about 9:15 p.m.

Rain is expected, with possible thunderstorms in the area, according to the National Weather Service. Here’s the announcement from Jami Gore:

Fireworks Weather Update: Due to impending inclement weather, the Darien Parks and Recreation Fireworks have been postponed until Sunday, July 7. Event times do not change. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and Fireworks at dusk (approximately 9:15pm).

UPDATE, Saturday — It’s been postponed till Sunday night. For days, weather forecasts have said thunderstorms are possible in the area on Saturday and Saturday night, July 6, when Darien’s fireworks display is scheduled. Now organizers are saying a decision about the weather will be made before 9 a.m., Saturday. UPDATE, 7:13 p.m. — Greenwich has postponed its fireworks display from Saturday night to Sunday night (for more on that, see below). Jami Gore, recreation program supervisor for the town Parks & Recreation Department, sent out an email at 5:44 p.m., Friday to discuss the weather reports and the decision on whether or not to postpone the fireworks to the Sunday, July 7 rain date.

Here’s what you need to know about getting in and out for the Darien fireworks display on Saturday night, and about parking when you’re there. Police issued this announcement Wednesday:
The Darien Police Department will enforce traffic regulations and monitor security for the town’s 2019 fireworks display on Saturday, July 6 at Darien High School (DHS). (The rain date is July 7.)
The main entrance will open at 6:30 p.m.

You’ll Need a Parking Pass
A parking pass is required to park on DHS campus grounds. Parking passes can be obtained through Friday, July 5, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Town Hall Parks and Recreation Department office (Room 110). Parking passes will not be sold at the event.
