If you have an idea about starting a business but don’t know where to start, or if your  new business is struggling to grow, this free, five-part workshop series on five Tuesday nights, starting May 22, will provide a solid foundation for your business to grow and thrive.

This workshop series, conducted by a team of professionals from the SCORE Fairfield County Chapter, will give you the boost to get you on your way!

The series is presented Tuesday nights from May 22 to June 19, from  6 to 8 p.m. in the Conference Room at Darien Library. Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m. Please check your schedule to ensure you can attend all the listed sessions.

Week 1: Self-Assessment/Business Plan

Tuesday, May 22 — Learn about the risk and reward of starting a business in today’s competitive marketplace. The traits of successful entrepreneurs will be discussed for the purpose of assessing one’s innate and acquired ability to start and manage a successful business. The session will also focus on structuring a dynamic plan.

Week 2: Marketing Strategy & Research

Tuesday, May 29 — Learn the importance of market research and planning to start-up and build a competitive and successful business. Emphasis will be on sound market positioning of a small business’s products or services within its target market that will enhance profitable sales and success.

Week 3: Website & Social Media Marketing

Tuesday, June 5 — This session focuses on the current online marketing tools available for start-up and operating businesses. Proven providers of website design/marketing programs and of social media marketing tools will help navigate your business to the proper balance of a website and social media marketing strategies for your business.

Week 4: Financial Reporting & Planning

Tuesday, June 12 — This presentation reviews a business’s key financial statements and walks the participants through the development of a comprehensive financial plan. The importance of understanding the key financial drivers of the business will be a center-piece of the discussion.

Week 5: Funding Sources/Conversation with Entrepreneurs

Tuesday, June 19 — Learn how the funding structure required for start-up businesses today, including a presentation from lending sources specializing in start-up and small businesses. Includes discussion and Q&A with SCORE mentored, start-up business entrepreneurs.
