For the third time in a week, a written racial slur was found at Middlesex Middle School, schools Superintendent Alan Addley said Friday afternoon in an email sent to staff and families of students.
Addley’s announcement didn’t say where the writing was found, what the racial slur is or even whether it was in the form of graffiti. Addley mentioned the slur only in the first paragraph of a five-paragraph message that also discussed other topics.

Full Text of the Message
Dear Families and Staff,
In the span of a week, Middlesex Middle School has experienced three incidents involving written racial slurs, two previously reported and another discovered yesterday. While these repeated acts are deeply disconcerting, they only strengthen our determination to confront hate and to continue fostering a school environment rooted in respect, empathy, and inclusion.
Thank you to the many members of our community who attended last night’s Stop Hate Together event, hosted by the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, the Darien Police Chief, and the Chief State’s Attorney’s office. Your presence and partnership matter and make a difference.
Even as we confront these difficult moments, we remain committed to celebrating all that is good and inspiring within our schools. This week, we had the joy of honoring the Class of 2025 at the Senior Scholarship and Awards Ceremony. It was a powerful tribute to our students’ talents, academic excellence, and character — and a reflection of the amazing generosity and steadfast support of our community. Moments like these affirm the strength, promise, and shared values that define our school district.
As we head into the long weekend, I hope you and your child(ren) find time to cheer on the high school band and enjoy the floats, sights, and sounds of the town’s Memorial Day Parade, a tradition that brings our community together in pride and remembrance.
Wishing you a safe, meaningful and dry holiday weekend!
Alan
