CNN Anchor Alisyn Camerota will visit Darien Library on Sunday, Sept. 22, to discuss her new memoir, Combat Love, a personal story of growing up on the Jersey Shore in the free-range 1980s. — an announcement from Darien Library and Barrett Bookstore

Alisyn will be in conversation with Darien’s Page Berger. Longing for stability and attachment as the foundation of her family crumbled, Camerota finds the belonging she craves courtesy of a local punk rock band named Shrapnel and their diehard fans. Combat Love chronicles her near-misses and misadventures at clubs like CBGB and Max’s Kansas City, coupled with the sex, drugs, and punk rock of 1980s New Jersey.

Darien Police Release Statement on Drivers Recently Talking with Children in Town

Police Chief Jeremiah Marron Jr. on Monday issued a statement  to town residents about recent interactions between drivers and children. The statement made four requests to the public:

First: “The Darien Police Department urges everyone to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information or rumors about these incidents, as it can lead to unnecessary alarm.” Second: “We ask the community to rely on official updates from the Police Department for accurate information.” Third: “We also encourage the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information that may assist us in these investigations.” Fourth: “Any witnesses or individuals with relevant details are urged to contact the Darien Police Department immediately.”

E-Bike ownership and usage took off during the Covid pandemic as commuters became concerned about close contact and so stopped using public transportation. Yet E-bike sales have not stopped since Covid slowed. Ed Mantaring, the long-time manager of Danny’s Cycles in Noroton Heights, says, “Before Covid, we sold two or three E-bikes per year. Now, we sell 30-40 per year.”

Police: Man, 26, Driving with 3X the Legal Blood-Alcohol Amount, Crashes into Stone Wall and a Parked Car

A 26-year-old man was charged with driving while under the influence after he struck a stone wall and a parked Lexus on Pratt Island, Darien police said. Darien police gave this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Police arrived at the scene at about 9:48 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5. Ramiro Narvaez had been driving a BMW X3. Police did not say he was injured in the accident.
