Darien Police Release Statement on Drivers Recently Talking with Children in Town

Police Chief Jeremiah Marron Jr. on Monday issued a statement  to town residents about recent interactions between drivers and children. The statement made four requests to the public:

First: “The Darien Police Department urges everyone to remain calm and avoid sharing unverified information or rumors about these incidents, as it can lead to unnecessary alarm.” Second: “We ask the community to rely on official updates from the Police Department for accurate information.” Third: “We also encourage the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity or information that may assist us in these investigations.” Fourth: “Any witnesses or individuals with relevant details are urged to contact the Darien Police Department immediately.”

When someone is in crisis, or worried about someone in crisis, 988 is the first stop. 24 hours a day, seven days a week, local help is available by phone, and since February of this year, by chat and text. — an announcement from United Way of Connecticut

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) launched 988 nationwide on July 16, 2022, as a new, easy-to-remember Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. “As of Aug. 1, we’ve now expanded our hours of chat and text operations to seven days per week.

His death marks the end of a remarkable life characterized by unwavering devotion to his family, steadfast commitment to public service and a distinguished career in finance. David was a cherished figure in his community, where he served on multiple town boards and volunteered extensively. His contributions were a testament to his deep-rooted belief in civic duty and his passion for improving the lives of those around him. Before transitioning to public service, David enjoyed a successful career in finance, culminating in his retirement from JP Morgan Asset Management.

Police Announce Traffic and Parking Regulations for DHS Open House Thursday Evening, Sept 19

Due to the traditionally large turnout for the Darien High School Open House, the Darien Police Department advises that the following traffic regulations are being put into effect for the area surrounding Darien High School on Thursday, Sept. 19, starting at 6:30 p.m.:
— an announcement from Darien Police Capt. Alison Hudyma, from the department’s Field Services Bureau
• All traffic will enter the High School grounds via Noroton Ave. Vehicular traffic will not be permitted to enter the area via High School Lane, Nutmeg Lane, Holly Lane, or Libby Lane. Officers will be present to direct all vehicles to appropriate and designated parking areas. • All vehicles will be properly parked so as to facilitate and expedite the safe flow of vehicles at the conclusion of the event.

The E-Bike: Eco-Friendly or a Safety Menace?

E-Bike ownership and usage took off during the Covid pandemic as commuters became concerned about close contact and so stopped using public transportation. Yet E-bike sales have not stopped since Covid slowed. Ed Mantaring, the long-time manager of Danny’s Cycles in Noroton Heights, says, “Before Covid, we sold two or three E-bikes per year. Now, we sell 30-40 per year.”

There are many positives to E-bikes, yet one negative threatens to destroy their popularity just as they are gaining traction in the marketplace. In order to help educate the public about E-bikes, Danny’s Cycles is offered an E-Bike Tech Day on Sunday, Sept.

William Patrick Frank, 83, died at home in Darien. Born in the Bronx, New York, he was the son of Otto and Mary Brennan Frank. He attended All Hallows, Fordham Preparatory School, Georgetown University and Fordham Law School. Bill served as a military intelligence Ccaptain in the U.S. Army in Vietnam during the Tet offensive and earned recognition including Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Joint Service Commendation medals. He was the 23rd associate to join the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom, where he served for over 50 years, including as litigation practice leader and New York Office leader.

Police: Man, 26, Driving with 3X the Legal Blood-Alcohol Amount, Crashes into Stone Wall and a Parked Car

A 26-year-old man was charged with driving while under the influence after he struck a stone wall and a parked Lexus on Pratt Island, Darien police said. Darien police gave this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Police arrived at the scene at about 9:48 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5. Ramiro Narvaez had been driving a BMW X3. Police did not say he was injured in the accident.
