Summer Reading

Monday, June 4 marks our favorite day of the year: it’s the first day of registration for our Summer Reading Program!

Register between Monday, June 4 and Thursday, June 14 and children in grades K-6 will be entered into a special raffle for an awesome prize.

Mystery on the Darien ExpressRegistration Raffle Drawing takes place on Friday, June 15 at 5:30 p.m.

June Programs

Father’s Day Crafts
Tuesday, June 12 at 4 p.m.
Stop by and create a craft in celebration of Father’s Day!
Open. Ages 3 and up.

Transit Tots Storytime
Thursday, June 14 at 11 a.m.
Clickety clack, clickety clack… everyone climb aboard the train with the Children’s Librarians! This special storytime will feature classic railroad songs, rhymes, and stories for all train enthusiasts!
Open. All ages with caregiver.
*Tickets will be distributed 15 minutes prior to the program. Space is limited.

Arabiqa
Friday, June 15 at 4 p.m.
This dynamic and entertaining demonstration of music from the Arab world allows children to experience a number of unique instruments including the drums and the buzuq. Karim Nagi blends teaching of the Arabic language with a three sound clapping system, which allows anyone in the crowd to perform the Arabic rhythms without an instrument.
Open. Grades K and up.

Sciencetellers: The Mystery of the Golden Piano
Monday, June 18 at 4 p.m.
Grab your spurs and journey with us to the Wild West, where a legendary bank-robbing outlaw is back in town, about to strike again! After the Sheriff mysteriously vanishes, two young kids must saddle up to foil the great heist – but not before stopping a runaway train, escaping an abandoned mine shaft, and discovering how a mysterious piano can play an ‘instrumental’ part in putting a rotten cowboy back behind bars.
Open. Grades K and up.

Summer Kick-Off Party
Wednesday, June 20 at 5 p.m.
Celebrate summer at Darien Library! Get excited for the summer ahead with music, facepainting, and more at our kick-off event.
Open. All ages with caregiver.

 

Drop-In Storytimes

No registration needed!

Come on Everybody

Mondays at 10 a.m.
All ages with a parent/caregiver. Storytime for everyone featuring a short picture book movie.

Toddler Tales
Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.
Walkers (up to 36 months) with a parent/caregiver. This fast-paced storytime for lively toddlers includes books, songs, fingerplays, and movement.

Baby Laptime
Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.
Pre-walking babies and a parent/caregiver. Join us for fingerplays, songs, and bounce rhymes in this lapsit storytime.

Bookworms
Thursdays at 4:15 p.m.
Ages 4 to 7 and a parent/caregiver. Join us for a weekly craft storytime. Read a book, have a discussion and get crafty!

 

Drop-In Programs

Lego Club
Saturdays at 2 p.m.
Are you a Lego fan? Let’s build something together! Stop by every Saturday to participate in collaborative Lego building with other kids. Ages 5 and up.
