After a 44-year-old driver ran over a motor scooter at the intersection of Tokeneke Road and Raymond Street (near the Darien-Norwalk border) she left the scene, police said. Six weeks later, she was arrested.

Darien police gave this account, including accusations that haven’t been proven in court:

The woman, a resident of Rowayton Woods, a housing development just north of Rowayton, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when she ran over the scooter on Halloween. Police did not say what time of day the incident happened, how it happened or why.

Witnesses, including the scooter’s owner, identified the driver and said the vehicle left the scene. The scooter received significant damage. Police later located the Jeep and found it was damaged in a way consistent with the incident.

Police applied for and received an arrest warrant issued by state Superior Court in Stamford the day after the incident, Friday, Nov. 1.

On Sunday, Dec. 15, the driver was stopped by state police, who took her into custody. She was taken to Darien Police Headquarters, where her arrest was processed.

She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and evading responsibility. The woman posted a $25,000 bond, was released and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 31.
