When a 42-year-old man got into a confrontation with a man in the parking lot at the Ring’s End store on West Ave., he spat on the man and told him he was infected with COVID-19, according to police.

Darien police gave this account of the matter, including accusations not proven in court:

At about 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, police received a call about the incident. The victim told police he had been driving toward the exit when the suspect, later identified as Saul Aguilar-Nuricumbo (also known as Saul Aguilar) of Fairfield Avenue in Norwalk, jumped in front of the man’s vehicle.

The man told police he rolled down his window to tell Aguilar to be careful, and then Aguilar walked up to the driver’s window, told him he was infected with COVID-19 and spat on him.

The man then pushed Aguilar “out of his car window and away from him,” police said, and asked a Ring’s End employee to call police.

The man then pulled into a parking spot. While crossing the parking lot, the man said, Aguilar yelled to him, calling him stupid.

Aguilar then approached the man “to ask him what the issue was, and was struck in the face,” the police announcement said.

The announcement didn’t say who struck Aguilar and said nothing about whether Aguilar received an injury from having been struck. Aguilar then kicked the complainant’s vehicle.

Police also didn’t say whether they asked Aguilar if he did, in fact, have the COVID-19 virus.

Police issued Aguilar a misdemeanor summons charging him with breach of peace. He was released on a promise to appear June 22 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
