An 18-year-old man has been arrested on a warrant more than a month after he threatened violence against a woman if she didn’t let him drive off in her car. She let him leave, told police about it, and that led to his arrest on Sunday, March 3, police said.

Police gave this further account, including accusations not proven in court:

The incident was for a domestic violence incident that occurred on 1/14/2024. Victim reported that she drove with Reese to a business in Darien that morning and that Reese threatened the victim with physical violence when the victim refused to give Reese the car keys.

The victim told police on Jan. 14 that she and the teenager drove to a business in Darien that morning. The victim initially refused to give him the car keys, he threatened her and then drove off in the car without her permission.

The car was later found parked in Stamford, but the man was not found that day. A Darien police officer applied for an arrest warrant, which was approved on Jan. 23.

The man, a resident of Bedford Street in Stamford, was taken into custody by Stamford police. He arrested by Darien police at Stamford police headquarters on Sunday, March 4 on charges of using a motor vehicle without permission, threatening (both misdemeanors) and violation of a protection order (a felony).

He was initially held oveernight on a court-set bond of $25,000 and appeared Monday in state Superior Court in Stamford, which released him on a promise to appear in court. His next court date is March 24. He was held on a court set bond of $25,000.

Three months ago, on Dec. 4, 2023, the man was charged by Stamford police with second-degree breach of peace. He is next due in court on March 28, in connection with both cases.
