A homeless man, frequently in town, whose address is listed as a Darien post office box, was arrested after he was found sleeping in the downtown Post Office, police said.

Darien police gave this account of the incident, including accusations not proven in court:

At 4:54 a.m. on Friday, July 20, police received a report of a person sleeping inside the Post Office. Officers found Robert Houseworth, 63, in the building.

He’s been warned repeatedly by Darien police not to sleep in the Post Office. He was arrested on a charge of first-degree criminal trespass and held on $500 bond until he was taken that morning to state Superior Court in Stamford.

He remains in jail on the $500 bond.

On July 7, Stamford police charged Houseworth with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening. His bond on those charges is $100.

His next court date in each of the case is Aug. 13.
