The P2P Scholarship Program was established in 1968 to provide financial assistance to college students from low-income households, many of whom are the first in their family to pursue higher education.

With the awarding of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, each year P2P recognizes the considerable achievements of a college student who demonstrates a high degree of integrity and responsibility as well as a commitment to service and volunteering. In recognition of these accomplishments, each student is awarded $1,000.

Ms. Tillman was honored during the Jan. 20 ceremony commemorating Dr. King’s birthday, hosted by Stamford NAACP, with Ms. Betty McCree serving as Grand Marshall.

Speakers included Representative Jim Himes, Stamford Mayor David Martin, and Reverend Dr. Frederick J. Streets. Ms. Tillman was presented the award by P2P CEO Nancy Coughlin.

Ms. Tillman was nominated for the award by Mrs. Josephine Anderson, a member of P2P’s Scholarship Committee for over 30 years.

“Receiving the scholarship makes me feel valued and like I am on the right path,” Ms. Tillman said. “It will help me continue to make a difference in other people’s lives.”

She will be receiving her nursing degree from Sacred Heart University in May and plans to attend Southern New Hampshire University next year to pursue her bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

In addition to her academic pursuits, Ms. Tillman is committed to a life of service and to using her professional skills to help others in need.
