Patricia Ann Hynes Delyonas, age 87, of Norwalk, passed away on March 27, 2023, after a short illness.
She was born March 16, 1936, in Stamford to the late John “Jerry” Hynes and Jane Ormond Hynes, as the youngest of five sisters. She graduated from St. John’s Parochial School and Sacred Heart Academy. Pat met her husband while working at Pitney Bowes, and they married on Nov. 24, 1956. They had been married almost 65 years when he passed away on Oct. 4, 2021.
Pat and Ed were founding members of St. Matthew’s Church in Norwalk, and she was closely involved in church events her whole life. She was an accomplished seamstress and worked at Jack’s Fabrics in Darien for many years. With three young daughters, she and Ed started vacationing at the ocean in Brigantine, New Jersey in 1965, and bought a condominium there in the late 1970s.
Pat was a dedicated mother and grandmother and always made sure her family had everything they needed. She was fiercely proud of her family and missed no opportunity to highlight their accomplishments. She was famous for her determination and grit and was a true ally and friend. She will forever inspire us to draw strength in ourselves and stand up for what we believe in.
She was predeceased by her older sisters, Sister Regina Hynes CSJ and Rosemary Hynes Finn, and by her husband, Edward A. Delyonas. She is survived by two other sisters, Alice Hynes Havey and Jane Hynes Hall; by her children, Suzanne Delyonas, Barbara Delyonas Mitchell (Dan Mitchell), and Mary Delyonas (Steve Wagar); and by three grandchildren, Celia, Bridget, and Matthew Wagar.
A Mass of Chrisrtian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 30, at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave. in Norwalk. Burial will follow at St John’s Cemetery in Norwalk.
