Maureen Kenefick, 68, passed away April 25. Her funeral will be on May 6.

She was born on March 27, 1955 in Rolla, Missouri, to James Murphy and Maryann Murphy. Maureen was a Registered Nurse for more than 40 years and spent over three decades at Stamford Hospital working on Labor and Delivery, in Case Management and on Maternity. In the last few years of her career she served as a school nurse at several schools in the Darien Public School system.

Her true passion in life was caring for others, which was not confined to her work as a nurse. She gave birth to her son Hugo in 1989 and while she had a strong career in healthcare, it came far behind the care and love she showed him and her family.

She happily spent her retirement taking care of her adored and adorable grandchildren, Erin and Charlotte. “Mimi” and her girls had the most special bond, built off of blissful days filled with adventures and unconditional love.

She loved all animals, especially horses, which she enjoyed riding and always kept as a part of her life. Her adventurous spirit led her to many travels, her favorite being Ireland, where she maintained a 300-year-old thatched cottage that was her heart and second home.

She loved entertaining and warmly hosting family and friends. She was an extraordinary baker, and enjoyed sharing her treats with those she loved.

She received an exceptional outpouring of support over her final months, which was a testament to the expanse of her love’s reach, and the number of people she touched over the years.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Jimmy Murphy and Terry Murphy. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Timothy Kenefick (; son, Hugo Fueglein Jr.; daughter-in-law, Colleen Fueglein; grandchildren, Erin and Charlotte; stepson, Daniel Kenefick; his wife, Madeleine Weingarten; their son, Hector Kenefick; stepdaughter, Aubrey Kenefick; her husband, Alex Meyer, and two sisters and their husbands, Dawn and George Deehan and Jennifer and Todd Wikman.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023 at Talmadge Hill Community Church, 870 Hollow Tree Ridge Road, Darien.
