Mary Gwyn Schreiber, formerly of Darien, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2024 in Redmond Washington, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 92.
Mary Gwyn, MG, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was the daughter of Cloyd and Mary Huffard of Manhasset, New York, and Wytheville, Virginia.
MG graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. MG married George J. Schreiber III, son of George and Hallie Schreiber of Port Washington, New York. She raised three children in Darien, where she spent many special and wonderful years with her family, friends and crazy pets. She was an avid bowler and a longtime member of Wee Burn Country Club.
She was a proud, caring, devoted mother and took homemaking to another level as well as serving the community through the American Cancer Fund which she chaired in Darien, amongst other volunteer activities.
Her personality was vibrant, fun and she loved life with an infectious smile and personality. She could draw out the best of everyone. She inspired many to live life to its fullest and made managing a home and raising children as a profession.
MG is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Anne Schreiber of Woodinville, Washington; daughter, Penny, and her husband, Michael Curtin of Jeffersonton, Virginia; son, Kurt R. Schreiber of Chatham, New Hampshire; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Jane Huffard of Buckhead, Georgia; and her sister-in-law, JoAnne Schreiber of Norwalk; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
She was a proud Schreiber and Huffard alike and loved her grandchildren, Jennifer and Colin O’Brien, John and Kristiana Schreiber, Taylor and Joe Hurst and Ashley Curtin as well as her four great-grandchildren and relatives alike.
Our family would like to thank the wonderful care givers at Emerald Heights in Redmond Washington for the caring, compassionate care that allowed MG to live with dignity to the end.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
