Not only did a 33-year-old man violate a protective order by visiting the house where his estranged wife was working, he violated it 49 more times by texting her, Darien police said.

Police gave this account (containing accusations not proven in court):

The man, a resident of Ludlow Street in the South End of Stamford, on Thursday, Oct. 1 showed up and knocked on a door of a house where his estranged wife baby sits. The owner of the home was there at 12:20 p.m. when the man came knocking. He gave the employer a $100 bill to give to his ex-girlfriend, who stayed away from the door.

The woman called police to complain about the violation of the protective order, and she also said he texted her on numerous occasions. She told police that he had said he doesn’t care about the protective order and would violate it as many times as he wanted in order to see her.

Darien police asked police in Stamford to try to locate the man. Stamford police found him at his home and called Darien police, who took him into custody. The man was charged with 50 counts of violating a protective order and held on $1 million bond.

The Connecticut Judicial Branch website on Monday indicated only one charge of violating a protective order.

The man previously had been arrested by Stamford police on these dates, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website:

  • Oct. 31, 2011 — (by Stamford police) on charges of driving while under the influence, evading responsibility and violating probation.
  • Aug. 22, 2015 — (by Stamford police) on charges of first-degree criminal trespass, and in the same case, on Aug. 23, with second-degree harassment and three counts of violation of a restraining order.
  • Aug. 31, 2015 — (by Stamford police) on charges of violating probation in connection with a January 2012 arrest for which he was charged with driving while his license was under suspension.
