MacDonald “Mac” Osland, 89, a longtime resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at Stamford Hospital.

MacDonald Osland, 89, passed away April 19.

Born on Oct. 19, 1926 in New Rochelle, NY, he was the son of the late Ivind and Melinda Osland.

Mac graduated from Stamford High School, Class of 1948 and J. M. Wright Technical School in 1950.

Mac enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17 and served as a carpenter’s mate in the Seabees during World War II, where he saw extensive action at Okinawa in the Pacific supporting American operations against the Japanese. His decorations include the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal (1 star) and the Navy Unit Commendation.

Following his service in the United States Navy, Mac worked as a toolmaker for Globe Slicing Company.

Mac enjoyed tending to his decades old garden, woodworking, and watching classic western films. Most of all, he was a loving and spirited friend and will be deeply missed by Maryann, Karl, Max and Leo Scaccia, who considered him family, as well as his wonderful caregiver Annette Lowe.

A Service was held at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien on Tuesday, April 26.
