Josephine Valente obit

Josephine Valente, 93, passed away on April 4. A walk-through visitation will take place on Thursday, April 8, followed by her funeral and interment that day.

Josephine was born March 2, 1928 in Stamford and was the oldest of three children, both of whom predeceased her (James and Angelo Casolo). She also was predeceased by her parents, Antoinette and Angelo Casolo, and her husband, Frank Anthony Valente.

She had a great sense of humor and could always bring a smile to your face. She proved to be a strong willed, determined woman her entire life, raising her five children, but most especially when medical issues clouded and confused her mind.

Josephine was a caring, compassionate and generous woman who volunteered her time for many organizations, including the former St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stephen Ministries with St. Thomas More Church, Meals on Wheels and the Covenant House of Hospitality Soup Kitchen.

She also visited with residents at nursing homes, praying with them, and she cooked for and served seniors at St. Thomas More Church senior luncheons. Josephine was also a member of the Ladies Piedmont Associates.

Josephine was an avid Mets and UConn women’s basketball fan.

She was a devout Catholic who never missed Sunday Mass and sang in the St. Thomas More Church choir.

Josephine was most happy when her five children were all together with her. She fiercely loved her family and would do anything to help them in any way possible. She had many hobbies including baking, knitting, crossword puzzles, and reading.

Josephine is survived by her children: Francis James (Cindy) Valente, John (Dawn) Valente, Joanne (Mario) Tucciarone, Jeffrey (Eilish) Valente and Janice (Steven) Nagy; her grandchildren: Frank Valente, Allison (Ben) Maurer, Kristen and Reg Tucciarone, Lauren and Kellie Valente and T.J. and Faith Nagy; and two great-grandchildren: Chloe and John Maurer.

The Valente family would like to thank her aides, Erma Reid and Sandy Ragoonanan, who took such loving care of our mother and to the Constellation Health Services hospice nurses who visited our mother twice a day the last week of her life and were a great support and comfort to the family.

Friends and family are invited to a walk-through visitation from 9 to 10 a.m., Thursday, April 8, at Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Road, Darien, CT.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30am at St. Thomas More Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien. To view the Mass of Christian burial, visit stmdarienct.org. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, 25 Camp Ave., Darien.
