Joseph Robert Palumberi Sr., age 87, formerly of Shelton, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, June 25, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, with his loving family by his side.

The wake for Joseph Palumberi Sr. takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Tuesday, in Bridgeport.

A beloved and devoted son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, he will be missed. Born in Darien on April 4, 1929, he was the 5th child of the late Francesco and Raffaela (Limatola) Palumberi of Darien.

A four-sport star and Darien High School Hall of Fame inductee, Joseph continued his family’s long history of military service and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, ultimately serving as a Sergeant in the Korean War. Joseph was a lifetime member of the Piedmont Italian Club in Darien.

He spent his twilight years at the Hearth at Gardenside in Branford, and previously lived in Shelton, Trumbull, Fairfield, Norwalk, and Darien.

Survivors include his sons; Robert Palumberi and wife Heather of Cold Spring, NY., James Palumberi and wife Sharon of Stratford, Joseph Palumberi Jr. of Naples, Fl., and Brian Palumberi of Shelton, his grandchildren; Roxanne, Michael, Kevin, Eric, Kelsey, Carlin, Kelly, and Christopher, and many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was predeceased by his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia Ann Palumberi, his brothers; Rosario Palumberi and Patsy Palumberi and sisters; Lucy Bennette, Viviana Benko, and Christina Penserio.

Friends are invited to attend the funeral at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull with a Mass of the Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 28 (today) at the Parente-Lauro Funeral Home, 559 Washington Ave. Bridgeport.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donation be made to the CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford CT 06405 in memory of Joseph.
