Janet McMahon Mustion, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away on Aug. 19 in Darien. May she rest in peace.

Janet Mustion, 87, passed away on Aug. 19. Her funeral was held on Sept. 12 in Darien.
Janet was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, John Morris Mustion, in 2016. Janet is survived by her four children: Loren, Sheryl, John Jr. and Glenn.
Born Feb. 10, 1938, Janet grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey, where she attended Teaneck High School. After graduation, she continued her education at the Katherine Gibbs School in New York and later at Syracuse University, where she formed many lifelong friendships.
A liberal arts major and an enthusiastic Delta Gamma sorority sister, it was at Syracuse where Janet McMahon met the love of her life, John Mustion — an economics student, star athlete on the SU basketball and baseball teams, and a Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity brother. After a whirlwind romance, Janet and John married and headed south for John’s professional baseball spring training.
After several years traveling for baseball, the couple settled in Ramsey, New Jersey, where they built their family home on Lakeside Drive. Together, they raised four children and spent family time swimming at the lake down the street, hitting balls in the backyard, and making life-long friendships. An avid golfer and paddle player at RG&CC, Janet was known for her athleticism, spirited competitiveness, and vibrant personality.
Janet’s most treasured role was as grandmother, “DeDe,” to eight granddaughters and one grandson: Catherine, Courtney, Claire, Emma, Margaret, John III, Madeline, Maura, and Charlotte. Janet loved her grandchildren more than anything, and her boundless energy, warmth, and joy lit up every moment she spent with them.
Janet will be remembered for her generous heart, her unwavering devotion to family and friends, and her kindness, which touched the lives of everyone.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 12 at St. John Church in Darien. In place of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
