Robert Beachem Kling died Sept. 16, 2025 at home in Darien, with his family at his side. He was 94 years old. Born Nov. 12, 1930 in New York City, he grew up in Darien, attending Darien elementary and middle schools, followed by three years at the Westminster School in Simsbury, Connecticut.

Michael Robert Taylor, affectionately known as “Tay Tay” of Darien, passed away suddenly on Oct. 8. He was 57. Mike was born on June 5, 1968, in Stamford to Michael and Barbara Taylor. He attended Royle Elementary School, Middlesex Junior High, and Darien High School (class of ’86), where he met his future wife, Lisa DeYulio.

Christopher Mark Smith of Youngsville, North Carolina, passed peacefully on Sept. 21, 2025. He was 67. Chris was born July 21, 1958 in Paterson, New Jersey to Barbara and Donald Smith. He was a 1976 graduate of Darien High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering technology at Clemson University, class of 1980.

On Sunday June 15, William Henry Darrow II, loving husband and father of two, passed away at the age of 78. Bill was born on May 30, 1947, in the Bronx, New York to the late William Lawrence Darrow and Martha Beatrice D’Amore. Bill was the oldest of four children. He was raised in New Rochelle, New York. After grade school at Holy Family, he attended Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains, where he played football and was varsity captain in his senior year.

Peter Rient, a former Watergate prosecutor, and architect of the U.S. Justice Department’s Principles of Federal Prosecution, died in Darien on Sept. 2 at the age of 87. The cause of death was heart disease. Peter Frank Rient was born on March 17, 1938 in Moscow. His mother, Gertrude Rient Gangadharan, was a Czech linguist employed by the U.S. embassy there.

Amy is survived by her devoted husband, Robert (Bob), her three children, Robert (Stacey Blanchard), Brian and Genevieve, and her two granddaughters, Amy and Natalie. Born Feb. 15, 1955, Amy grew up in Garden City, New York, graduating in 1973 from Garden City High School, where she was an honor roll student and cheerleading captain.

Born May 15, 1940, in Berwick, Pennsylvania, to Harry and Betty Cole, she was the middle of five children and is survived by her brothers, Mike and David Cole, along with many nieces and nephews. Judy is also survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Matthew Harrison, her daughters Cecily Urenay (Gokay) and Page Gostling (Peter), and four adoring grandsons: Berker, Arman, Win, and Chips. She will be remembered for her kindness, intelligence and elegance.

Francis Michael Lacerenza Jr. of Stratford, beloved son of the late Frank Michael Lacerenza and Theresa Maslowski Lacerenza, entered into eternal rest with our Lord on Sept. 9. Born June 20, 1961, the fourth of seven children, Frankie carved his own path at an early age. After graduating from Darien High School, Frank served as an apprentice at his father’s business, Frankie‘s TV, in Stamford. He proved to be a quick study and went on to excel in all things electro-mechanical in nature, ultimately defining his career path by specializing in large and small engine modification, restoration and repair.

Harriette “Happy” Clarke Thorne, longtime resident of Darien, passed on Sept. 6, 2025 in Swampscott, Massachusetts, due to the side effects of Living, Laughing and Loving for over a century. Born April 13, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia, she was the first of two daughters of Frank Clarke and Georgia Crane Clarke. Her father was with Pittsburgh Plate Glass company and the family lived in Atlanta; Louisville, Kentucky; Webster Groves, Missouri; Ben Avon, Pennsylvania and Greenwich. After graduating from Avonworth High School in Ben Avon, she attended Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, for two years, then transferred to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, where she was graduated with a B.A. in English in 1947.

Dr. Penelope Bowers, affectionately known as “Penny,” passed away peacefully at her home in Darien on Sept. 1. Born in 1940 in Manchester, United Kingdom, Penny spent her formative years there, attending Withington Girls’ School and later Manchester University in England. Medicine ran deep in Penny’s roots — both her parents were physicians, and their dedication to the field inspired her to pursue her own medical degree at the university, a decision that shaped her life and career. In 1966, Penny moved to the United States and began an accomplished 30-year career in the pharmaceutical industry.

Doug Campbell III, age 72, passed away on Tuesday Sept. 2, 2025 at his home in Stamford with his wife and kids at his side, after a courageous four-year battle with ALS. He went peacefully thanks to an abundance of love and support from family and friends and because he was able to watch the University of Michigan football team win their first game of the season a few days prior. Doug was born on March 6, 1953, at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Raised in nearby Grosse Pointe Farms, he was the son of the late Douglas Campbell Jr. and the late Elizabeth MacColl Campbell.
