Eversource is reminding customers this is the perfect time to schedule a Home Energy Solutions (HES) assessment to begin increasing energy efficiency immediately, before temperatures outside dramatically change and there may be a scheduling wait.

Energize Connecticut Energize CT Logo 5-2-16Although winter is behind us and the scorching days of summer are still a little ways off, saving energy and controlling home energy costs are important year round.

“With summer right around the corner, now is the time to schedule an HES assessment to help control your home energy costs,” said Enoch Lenge, Eversource’s energy efficiency spokesman.

“This checkup determines where your house is losing energy and if your heating and cooling systems are operating efficiently.  It’s an easy and affordable way to stop losing heat in the winter and cool air in the summer.”

Since 2010, more than 210,000 Eversource customers have taken advantage of Energize Connecticut’s HES assessment program or rebates.  Customers who’ve had a home energy assessment are saving an average of $200 a year on energy costs.

“I had my assessment done a few weeks ago, after a friend recommended it, and I have already noticed my house is not as drafty as it used to be,” said Geoff Nielsen of Wethersfield.  “They caulked windows, installed weather stripping and door sweeps, and replaced bulbs with LED lights that are brighter.  They also recommended additional insulation in my attic.”

In addition to the assessment, Eversource-certified technicians seal air leaks and install energy-saving measures such as energy-efficient lighting, faucet aerators and low-flow shower heads.

They also provide written recommendations for additional energy-saving opportunities including insulation and high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, along with information on rebates and financing — all for $99.  Some customers, depending on their income, may qualify for the program free of charge.

Eversource is currently offering a rebate towards the purchase and installation of up to two Wi-Fi enabled smart thermostats for customers who have an HES assessment. These thermostats allow customers to manage their energy use with a smart phone, tablet or computer from anywhere.

To be eligible for the rebate, new program participants must heat their homes with electric or natural gas heating equipment (excluding electric baseboard).
