Helen Paparis, 99, of Darien passed away peacefully at Stamford Hospital surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Sept. 30.
She was born in New York City on April 20, 1917 to the late George and Julia Damaskinos Barpar.
Helen was a member of the Church of the Archangels of Stamford. She enjoyed playing piano and was an advocate of higher education. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking for her family.
Helen is survived by her loving sons Bill Paparis of New York City and George Paparis and his wife Cynthia of Darien, as well as three grandchildren Nicholas, Daphne and Gregory Paparis and two great grandchildren Sophia and Jeremiah Paparis.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband Nick Paparis and two brothers and two sisters.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. for a funeral service to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford. Interment will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery, East Elmhurst, N.Y.
Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016 from 3 to 6 p.m., with a Trisagion service at 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Helen’s memory to the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St., Stamford, CT 06905.
