Gardtrell E. Davis, Sr., 89, transitioned peacefully on Aug. 29. He leaves 63 descendants, with two of his children and his wife, Betty Griffin Davis, having predeceased him.

He was born on April 24, 1928 in Wrens, Georgia to Jessie Davis and Willie Lee Dixon Davis.
Gardtrell retired from Darien Fabricare Cleaners after numerous years of service.
His memory will be treasured by two daughters: Gwendolyn Davis and Annette Davis, seven sons: Douglas Davis (Bernadette), Melvin Davis, Warren Davis (Alanna), Kenneth Davis, Jamie Davis, Robert Davis (Vanessa) and Garth Ragsdale; 21 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ruby Walker and Bernice Hutson (Curtis), one brother, George Davis (Harriet); two sisters-in-law: Marie Davis and Nancy Davis; his longtime companion; Pinkey Courtney; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Gardtrell was also predeceased by his former wife Eunice Dixon Davis; two children: Gardtrell Davis, Jr. and Lynell Davis; his sister Louise Whitfield; and four brothers: John Davis, Warren Davis, Jessie Davis and Weldon Davis.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, followed by a service of celebration at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, 805 Newfield Ave., Stamford, with Rev. Dr. Robert W. Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery. Services entrusted to Downer Funeral Home.
