Frederick Santarella, 73, passed away June 30. His wake will be on Wednesday, July 5, and his funeral on Thursday.

He was born March 24, 1944 to Carmine and Mary (LaMalfa) Santarella. Fred graduated from Norwalk High School in 1962 where he was a member of the baseball team and captain of the basketball team. He then earned a B.A. in English from the University of Hartford.

Fred married Linda Saverine on Oct. 3, 1970. They raised their beloved children Stacey and Daniel in Darien. Mr. Santarella coached Daniel and his teammates for several seasons of baseball and basketball.

Fred enjoyed sports and continued to play softball with the Aces in Norwalk for many years. He also enjoyed golfing. Fred had a wonderful sense of humor and loved comedy of any kind. He immensely enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Santarella ran a home improvements business in Darien for 20 years. He also worked for Wagner Swimming Pools in Darien and A&D Quality Roofing in Norwalk.

Mr. Santarella is survived by his wife, Linda, and son, Daniel, both of Darien; a son-in-law, Brian Hickey, and grandchildren, Sean and Evangeline, of Valhalla, N.Y.; a brother, Daniel Santarella, and his wife Patty of Norwalk; nephew, Scott Santarella and Kathy of Westport and niece Dana Morton (and Kevin) of Norwalk. He is predeceased by his daughter Stacey.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Boston Post Rd., Darien, CT 06820.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, July 6 at St. John Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Road in Darien. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Fred’s memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation would be greatly appreciated by his family.
