David Ludwig, 75, died Friday, June 15 at home after a long illness.
Born on June 25, 1942, David Ludwig was a lifelong resident of Connecticut.
During his wide and varied career, Dave worked at Sprite Island Yacht Club, Santella Electric, D&H Construction and Malkin Construction.
For more than 30 years, Dave started his day with his breakfast crew of Howie and Johnny and other old friends at their favorite: Jake’s in Darien.
Dave was a man of Renaissance talents. He loved to create art and music. As a teenager, he was in a band that played the Rowayton and Darien party circuit. He made pottery and welded metal sculptures. Dave was a diehard boater (sailing and motor).
____________
— an obituary from Edward Lawrence Funeral Home
____________
He was a founding member of the Rowayton Yacht Club at Hickory Bluff. Every summer, he could be found on the water: mooring in Zeigler’s Cove or piloting a support boat for the Lighthouse to Lighthouse Race along the Norwalk Islands, while his wife rowed.
Dave was always ready for a project or an adventure. He would help friends and family with anything from building backyard decks, or piloting a houseboat from Florida to Connecticut, to helping a teenager get a summer job.
Those who knew Dave treasured his never-ending conversations over desserts about fixing broken cars or sharing the latest scientific news and innovations. He was so loved and will be missed by many.
Dave is survived by his son, Clayton Ludwig; his wife, Mary Ellen Flaherty-Ludwig; his siblings, Mike, Kenny, and Schatzi Ludwig; and his step-daughters, Jen and Erin Cramm.
Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 18 at the Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to Regional Hospice, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810.
