Noroton Heights Railroad Station isn’t the only one in town that will get all of its passenger platforms completely replaced — a project to do the same at the Darien station is in the state’s early planning stages, First Selectman Jayme Stevenson says.
As was the Noroton Heights station, the Darien station has “old […] structures holding up the platforms, which are not performing well,” Stevenson told the rest of the Board of Selectmen at its meeting on Monday, Sept. 10.
“We found out probably two weeks ago, interestingly, that the […] platforms at the Darien station are slated for replacement” by the Connecticut Department of Transportation, she said.
Stevenson said she was surprised: She thought the extensive renovation project years ago at the station had also replaced platforms. Instead, the old ones are still there.
Being slated for replacement doesn’t mean the project is just around the bend, however. Under the project would take place sometime early in the next decade, she said.
“Final construction documents are scheduled to be completed by January of 2020,” she said. “So that will be an exciting time, I’m sure.”
