‘You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown’ Opens Friday at Darien Arts Center

Clark Gesner’s You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, a family-friendly production by Darien Arts Center Stage is opening on Friday, April 22. The light-hearted show is a collection of short scenes and songs based on the ‘Peanuts’ comic strip, originally created by Charles M. Schulz in 1967. Eight performances will run in the DAC’s  Weatherstone Studio on April 22, 23, 29, 30 and May 6 & 7 at 8 p.m. and April 24 and May 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students, and are available for purchase at the Darien Arts Center website. For more information, call the DAC at (203) 655-8683. The DAC Weatherstone Studio is located at 2 Renshaw Road, behind Darien Town Hall.

The Darien Fire Department, together with the Noroton and Noroton Heights fire departments are holding a St. Baldrick’s Day event to shave heads as a fundraiser for kids with cancer. The event takes place at the Darien Fire Department headquarters, 848 Post Road, from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, March 19. See Long Island Sound on a Maritime Aquarium Cruise this Month

Look for seals in Long Island Sound, enjoy the colors of twilight on the water and get close to eight historic lighthouses through a variety of public cruises offered this month by The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. The Aquarium’s current season of “Seal-Spotting & Birding Cruises” continues with outings March 13, 19 and 20. New “Sunset Cruises” debut on March 19 with an adults-only happy-hour-type outing to the Norwalk islands. And a “Western Long Island Sound Lighthouse Cruise” on March 26 will feature special guest Jeremy D’Entremont, who has been called the leading expert on New England’s historic lighthouses. _________

Scouts in Uniform Get Discount Saturday at Maritime Aquarium

Scouts are tasked with being thrifty, and, on Saturday, March 12, The Maritime Aquarium is giving them the chance to be just that — scouts in uniform get discounted admission. Specifically, on March 12, Scout Day at the Aquarium, any Girl Scout or Boy Scout wearing her or his uniform to the Aquarium that day receives discounted prices of $11 for Aquarium admission, or $15.75 for the Aquarium plus an IMAX movie. (Regular prices are: $12.95 & 17.95 for ages 3-12; and $17.95 & $22.95 for ages 13-17.)

The in-uniform discount applies to Scouts of all levels. Even adult Scout leaders in uniform pay only $11 for Aquarium admission, or $15.75 for the combination ticket. (Regular adult prices are $19.95 and $24.95.)

The discount is not available for advance online purchases.

Stamford’s big-balloon parade starts at noon on Sunday, and you can watch the big balloons get inflated from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. Officially named the “2015 UBS Parade Spectacular,” the parade can get crowded in downtown Stamford (last year, 100,000 people showed up, according to organizers), so you may want to get there early. Here’s the announcement from the Stamford Downtown Special Services District website:

Something gigantic is coming to Stamford Downtown. The UBS Parade Spectacular, Presented by Stamford Town Center and The Advocate, comes to Stamford on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 12 noon.

Three different levels of fright are offered for children of all ages at Darien EMS-Post 53’s haunted house on Sunday. Once again, the Halloween event will have games, treats and crafts for all. There’s something for parents and other members of the community as well at the annual event: It’s also an open house for the community, featuring ambulance tours and the opportunity to learn hands-only CPR. It’s all free (donations are welcome), and takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Post 53 headquarters, 0 Ledge Road.
