Bonnie L. R. Tweedy passed away on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Stamford Hospital. Born Jan. 14, 1932 in New York City, she was 83 years old.

Bonnie L. R. Tweedy passed away Saturday at the age of 83.

A neighborhood legend and 80-year resident of her family home in Darien, she was known for her many interests and acts of kindness.

She studied painting at the Art Students League in New York, sculpture at the Silvermine Guild of Artists in Connecticut and taught at the Convent of the Sacred Heart on Long Neck Point in Darien.

Although a life-long painter, she became an accomplished writer and was working on her fourth book, a book, of memoirs.

Active in her later years, she served on the board of directors of Tweedy and Barnes, the family Cranberry growing company on Cape Cod. Her love of travel included an around the world cruise on the QE II and a trip to Antarctica.

She is survived by her nephew, Edmund Richards Tweedy Flanigan of Kahuku, Hawaii, two great nieces, Lisa and Kellen, two great nephews, Tweedy and Billy, her spouse, Elinor Sapp, and her beloved dachshund, Mabel.

Bonnie was predeceased by her father, E.R. Tweedy, her mother, Janet Booth Tweedy, and two brothers, Ned and John.

Bonnie’s life will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Darien on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m.
