Four Darien eateries are offering foods that a college-oriented foodie website, “Spoon University,” says are among the 50 best foods you can find in Fairfield County.

The suggestions could be especially helpful for students home for the summer — or anyone interested in local dishes that get praise.

Bodega Taco Bar’s tacos, SoNo Baking Company Bakery & Cafe’s pastries, pizza at Post Corner and the chicken cutlet sandwich at Uncle’s Deli all made SpoonUniversity.com’s list, along with comestibles offered at food-serving establishments in neighboring towns.

“We’ve made the list!” Uncle’s Deli said on its Facebook page.
“‘The 50 Best Things to Eat in Fairfield County, Connecticut Before You Die.’ We are #18 with our Chicken Cutlet Sandwich. Come try one!”

Here’s one bite each out of what the article had to say on the three Darien food places. It’s just a sample to whet your appetite — go to the article for a full serving (and you know where to go for the actual food):

  • No. 3: Bodega Taco Bar has “some of the best and most original tacos you have ever eaten.”
  • No. 7: Pastry at SoNo Baking Company Bakery & Cafe is “consistently delicious and freshly made […]”
  • No. 18: Chicken cutlet sandwich at Uncle’s Deli, but “You will be overjoyed with any sandwich or sub off of their menu […]”
  • No. 44: Pizza at Post Corner Pizza: “Picture a cheesy bubbly surface laid on a crispy bottom, surrounded by a crispy flavorful crust.”

The Website: Looks New to this Area

SpoonUniversity.com has food articles meant to be of interest to college students. “We give students the training, support and resources they need to run their own food websites on their college campuses,” the website says.

The articles tend to focus on inexpensive, good, nutritious food, and the 50-best list doesn’t look like it has a lot of  expensive restaurants on it. Often the articles are written by college students themselves about food offered on their own campuses or nearby.

A chapter appears to have recently opened at Fairfield University (where a launch party was held for the local chapter in late April).

But now that we’re on summer break, articles might be written about this area’s food from students attending any college who are back home (the 50-best article was written by Amelia Schwartz, a student at the University of Denver).
