The Town of Darien offers free bulk pickup to residents each spring. Pickup is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from April 1, 2025, to June 11, 2025, for residences on public streets.

An appointment for pickup must be scheduled in advance. Each residence is restricted to a single pickup per calendar year. Debris must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of the scheduled pickup.
Rules for What the Town Will Pick Up and WON’T
WON’T
The following items will NOT be accepted:
• Hazardous waste
• Sealed containers or barrels
• Liquid wastes and paint (paint disposal at transfer station)
• Propane tanks, fire extinguishers or other pressure vessels
• Pathological or medical waste
• Logs, stumps, leaves, grass clippings, and brush
• Batteries
• Drywall (gypsum board, sheetrock or wall board)
WILL — BUT WITH CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS
Items are limited to those too large for transport by passenger car or SUV.
Wood items must be less than 4 feet long and 6 inches in diameter.
Refrigerators, dehumidifiers, and air conditioners require a refrigerant sticker which may be purchased in advance for a fee of $15, at the Department of Public Works in the Town Hall, 2 Renshaw Road. or at the scale house.126 Ledge Road. If purchasing the refrigerant sticker at the scale house, please bring exact change. Please remove refrigerator doors for safety and affix sticker onto device. We will confirm your appointment in advance.
Ways to Request a Pickup
Residents are urged to utilize the Town’s website and customer service software system to schedule pickup appointments. Detailed scheduling and pickup information can be found under “How Do I” and then “Spring Bulk Pickup” on the main page of the website.
Residents without internet or email access, or with any questions, should contact the Department of Public Works office directly at 203.656.7346. All appointments are confirmed in advance.
