Benedict Nelson Smith, II, born March 25, 1935 in New York City to the late Lucinda Huffman and Ralph C. Smith and a longtime resident of Darien, died on March 11. He was 89.

Benedict Smith II, 89, died on March 11. His funeral will be on May 28 in Darien.
He graduated from Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts and the University of Colorado.
He started his 37-year career in personal wealth management at Fairfield County Trust Co. (now Wells Fargo Bank). Upon retirement he held the position of senior vice president and senior portfolio manager.
Smith volunteered his time at The Darien Nature Center, Darien Historical Society, At Home in Darien, Saint Luke’s Parish and the Community Fund.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hester Huguley Smith, his daughter Lucinda S. Wesson (Jonathan) and his son David P. Smith, Virginie H. Smith and three grandchildren, Violet Smith, Creighton Wesson and Clementine Smith. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews Ronald Huebsch (Amanda), Suzanne Huebsch, Hunter Huebsch and Elizabeth Huebsch.
Smith was predeceased by his sister, Lucy S. Rowan, and his nephew, Michael C. Huebsch.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Benedict’s memory to Americares.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 28 at Saint Luke’s Parish, in Darien.
