Recycling saves natural resources AND it saves taxpayers money! Since the Mattress Recycling Program began in mid-June, 5.62 tons of mattresses have been collected and removed — at no cost to Darien taxpayers.
These mattresses would otherwise have been thrown in with municipal solid waste (MSW), for which the town pays roughly $91 a ton to have hauled away. That savings of just over $500 benefits every taxpayer in Darien!
