Walter Otto Lindecke, 94, of Wilton died peacefully on March 8.
Born in Cobbel, Germany in 1927 to Otto and Anna Lindecke, Walter moved with his family to Cobleskill, New York when he was eight years old. There, he met his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Dox, with whom he built his life in Warwick, New York, followed by Belleair, Florida and finally Wilton.
He graduated from Adelphi University with a bachelor’s degree in business management and had a long and distinguished career in business, retiring from the Warwick Savings Bank.
Upon moving to Wilton at the age of 90, Walter made many friends at the Wilton Senior Center, enjoying hours of games and friendship with so many of Wilton’s senior community. He found a welcoming and loving home at Talmadage Hill Community Church.
His family would like to thank all those who were so warm and kind to Walter in his final years including the staff of nurses and aides from Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Fairfield County and Meadow Ridge who cared for him.
Walter was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and friend. He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Dox Lindecke, and his brother, Werner Lindecke. He is survived by his daughter, Beth Lindecke Kohl (Russ Kohl) of Wilton; and his son, James (Jennifer Pierson) of Peapack, New Jersey; as well as four grandchildren: Max Kohl, Celia Kohl, Hannah Lindecke and Nellie Lindecke.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2002, at Talmadge Hill Community Church.
