An employee at the H&L Chevrolet dealership at 1416 Post Road found on Saturday morning that tires and rims had been stolen from numerous cars in the outside lot overnight.

After police arrived at the scene, it was discovered that a white van had been stolen, as well.

Each set of tires and rims was priced at roughly $1,000, and the 2017 Chevrolet Express van was priced at $28,592 — making for a total loss of about $52,600.

A ladder at nearby Gardner’s Center & Florist may have been used to get into the H&L lot, police said. The tires were 22 inches, all from 2017 Chevrolet vehicles, including Tahoe and Suburban SUVs and at least one Silverado pickup truck.

The theft occurred sometime between 6:05 p.m. Friday night, Jan. 20, and about 7:30 a.m. the next day. The H&L employee who reported the burglary called police at 7:38 a.m.

There was nothing at the scene to suggest the H&L showroom or even the building had been entered.

This is the second time items were stolen from the parking lot. Sometime overnight from July 31 to Aug. 1, a total of 16 tires and rims were stolen from four vehicles, and six others were entered, according to an earlier report.

Police have been looking into whether they are able to trace the movements of the van, a police spokesman said. The van might have been used to haul away the other stolen items.
