‘Dazzling Decadent December’ Shopping Event at Kirby Benefits YWCA Darien/Norwalk Parent Awareness

YWCA of Darien/Norwalk holds its annual “Dazzling Decadent December” shopping event supporting the YWCA’s Parent Awareness programs, with ticket proceeds and a percentage of all sales on the day, on Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Kirby & Company. — an announcement from YWCA Darien/Norwalk

It will be a fun, festive evening celebrating the upcoming holiday season and at both Kirby and Company, 1029 Post Road and Kirby Girl, 14 Brook St. Beverages and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. “Parent Awareness, which has been at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk for over 20 years now, is a series of programs to educate parents in the community about various topics,” said Judy Phillips, president & CEO of the YWCA Darien/Norwalk.

New Book Club Formed in Darien for Parents About Parenting

The YWCA Darien/Norwalk Parenting Awareness and the Darien Library are partnering to create a Book Club for parents about parenting. The goal of the group is to offer parents a forum to read, learn and talk together about current parenting books targeted for specific age ranges including early childhood, elementary school ages and pre-teen to teenagers. — an announcement from the YWCA Darien/Norwalk

Each book will have its own daytime book group that will meet in the Darien Library Community Room and will be led by a librarian. The program is designed for parents who are eager to learn about new or different parenting topics and also want to have the opportunity to actively discuss what they’ve learned in the book. Books are selected by a team of librarians and YWCA Parent Awareness team members.

Toddler Time is a fun-filled two-hour drop-off program where children have free play, story time, learn new songs, create works of art and make new friends in a class of up to eight students, taught by two experienced teachers. — an announcement from the YWCA Darien Norwalk

It has served as the first drop off program experience for many children in the community. It takes place at the YWCA Darien Norwalk, 49 Old King’s Hwy.

Katherine Wehri Takayasu, M.D., M.B.A. is a board-certified family medicine physician at Stamford Hospital practicing integrative medicine combining traditional Western medicine with evidence-based complementary medical techniques. She works to improve patient wellness using traditional medicine and complementary medicine techniques. She helps patients heal naturally with acupuncture, mind-body medicine, botanical medicine, nutrition, and lifestyle optimization. She is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University/New York Presbyterian and teaches the next generation of doctors about healing the whole patient mind, body, and spirit.

‘Stand Against Racism’ Essay Contest for Middle, High School Students Announced by YWCA Darien/Norwalk

The YWCA Darien/Norwalk is announcing the first annual Stand Against Racism Essay Contest for middle and high school students. — an announcement from the YWCA of Darien/Norwalk

The YWCA will name be awarding four prizes, one each from both Darien and Norwalk at both the middle and high school levels. The High school level winners will each receive a $250 prize and the middle school winners will each receive a prize of $100. Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA USA and is designed to raise awareness about the negative impact of racism in our communities. This campaign is one part of the YWCA’s larger national strategy to fulfill our mission of eliminating racism.

The YWCA Darien/Norwalk is pleased to announce the honorees for the 2019 Women of Distinction Awards. The honorees who will be recognized at an inspiring luncheon on Thursday, May 9 at Woodway Country Club in Darien. — an announcement from the YWCA Darien/Norwalk

Our inspiring nominees are: Tracy Fox, Debra Hertz, Heather Raker, Shiva Sarram and Katherine Price Snedaker, while Morgan Riley will be honored as our Young Woman of Distinction, recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of a woman under 21 years of age. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the YWCA Darien/Norwalk Women of Distinction Awards. The award is bestowed in recognition of the outstanding achievements of a select group of women.
