‘Embracing Gender Identities’ Online Presentation for Parents

YWCA Parent Awareness and Middlesex Middle School Parent Association are sponsoring an online presentation, Embracing Gender Identities at Home and in School, at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15. This program is for parents of school age children who wish to learn more about gender diversity and fluidity. Studies have shown that when students feel safe to express their identities across the gender spectrum, they will be more prepared to learn and thrive in life & school. A presentation on Zoom.com will be made by Renee Reopell, director of Gender, Diversity and Resilience at The Child Guidance Center.

Presentation: Transgender 101 What It Means To Be Transgender

Join us in the Conference Room of Darien Library for an informal, comfortable presentation on what it means to be transgender. Learn from our presenter’s personal journey, including her victories andhardships. Topics to be covered include:

• The coming out process

• The transition process (G-rated)

• The acceptance process

• Terms and definitions

• Right and wrong questions to ask other transgender people

 
About the Presenter
Jill Celentano is a 57 year old Transgender woman who transitioned two years ago. In addition to being a realtor, and working at local theaters, Jill also works with an LGBTQ after-school program at a high school in New Haven. She is in the process of organizing support groups for transgender kids and adults.
