Man, 37, Charged with Soliciting, Arrested on Warrants for Soliciting in 2009

A charge of soliciting without a permit in Darien was the least of a 37-year-old Alabama man’s problems after police pulled up arrest warrants for failure to appear in court on 2009 soliciting charges. Darien police gave this account (accusations not proven in court):

The man, a resident of Opp, Ala. (it’s located near the Gulf coast, just north of Florida) was seen soliciting at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, near 150 Long Neck Point Road. He didn’t have a solicitor’s permit, violating a town ordinance.

A 27-year-old Arizona man reportedly trying to sell magazines door to door on Long Neck Point Road was charged Monday, Aug. 17, with violating the town’s soliciting ordinance, police said. Darien police gave this account (including accusations not proven in court) of the matter:

Police were called at about 6:30 p.m. and told that someone was trying to sell magazine subscriptions. Police went to the area and found Marquis Mayhue of Surprise, Ariz., who was working with Self Starters Inc. of 197th St., Bradenton, Fla. to sell magazines.
