Here’s what’s open, closed or has different hours on the last day of 2018 and the first day of 2019:

Monday, Dec 31, 2018 — New Year’s Eve
OPEN

Darien town government offices will be close early at 3 p.m.

Connecticut state offices will be open as usual. Darien Library is open, but closes early at 5 p.m.

Darien YMCA is open from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Click here for holiday schedules for group fitness and pool times.)

CLOSED

Darien schools won’t reopen until Wednesday, Dec. 2. The YWCA of Darien-Norwalk will be closed. GROCERY STORES

Costco — Store open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Pharmacy open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. )

Palmer’s Market — open until 6 p.m.

Stop and Shop — open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Trader Joe’s — open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Whole Foods Market — open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

PHARMACIES

Costco — Pharmacy open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Store open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.)

CVS — The pharmacy will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The store  will be open.

You and your kids can mark the end of the year — including a countdown to 12 o’clock noon — with special family fun on Monday, Dec. 31 at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. The Aquarium is planning fun midday activities for families with young children celebrate the end of 2018 together, but not at the stroke of midnight. — an announcement from the Maritime Aquarium

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a disc jockey will provide the beat, as well as a countdown to 12 o’clock; 12 o’clock noon, that is. “‘Noon Year’s Eve’ gives parents the chance to count down to a celebration with their children, but without the kids needing to stay up way past their bedtimes to do so,” said Aquarium spokesman Dave Sigworth.
