Community Fund Still Needs $8K to Meet $30K Goal to Pay for TeenTalk Middle School Counselor

The Community Fund of Darien has received $22,000 in individual donations towards funding a TeenTalk mental health counselor at Middlesex Middle School. They need $8,000 more to meet their goal. “You can make a difference today! Every contribution counts, and with your support, you can make a big difference in the lives of our students,” the Community Fund said in an email. “Let’s come together and make this happen!”

Ten Middlesex Middle School students were awarded high honors in the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) 2023-2024 Academic Talent Search. These Middlesex students were awarded: seventh graders Pavana Attonito, Oliver Katz and Harris Moeller; eighth graders Aarna Agrawal, Elena Cappella, Masaki Kimura, Kelsey Madson, Momo Schoenemann, Clayton Adams and Sklyer Johnson. Pavana Attonito and Masaki Kimura received the additional distinction of grand honors for being among the highest scorers worldwide this year. In order to qualify for high honors, students must earn a score on the SAT or ACT exam that reflects ability approximately four grade levels above their currently enrolled grade.

Community Fund of Darien Aims to Raise $30K for Mental Health Program at Middlesex Middle School

The Community Fund of Darien has announced partnership with the Darien Public Schools and Darien’s Health Department to fund a TeenTalk mental health counselor at Middlesex Middle School. The Community Fund hopes to raise $30,000 for a grant to the school district in response to Darien’s Youth Survey results, which indicated the need for mental health support for the town’s youth, the organization said in a news release. — This article is based on an announcement from The Community Fund of Darien. The Community Fund  seeks to raise the money from individual donations by May 31. The mental health counselor is  expected to be in place at the start of the the 2024-2025  school year in September.

Town Government Plans to Regrade, Install Turf Behind Middlesex Middle School from May 6 to 31

Darien town government will regrade and establish turf at 30 Edgerton St., between the Edgerton Street entrance and exit behind Middlesex Middle School,  tentatively starting May 6, with completion  by the end of the month, weather permitting. — an announcement from the Darien Department of Public Works

Work will take place between 7 a.m. through 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. No site work will take place on weekends or on the Memorial Day holiday, although some soil deliveries may occur on Saturdays. Work will be confined to central portion of the site as depicted on photograph below and will also impact the parking areas. Passage of vehicular traffic through the site will be available at all times.
