A routine business audit in February for STAR Inc. Lighting the Way, an area organization that runs a group home for adults in Darien, discovered $3,400 in cash not accounted for, and Darien police say they’re investigating what happened. After the suspected larceny at the group home, located on Edgerton Street, was reported to police, officers met with management of the organization on Monday, April 24. “An employee who had access to petty cash receipts and who was recently terminated was developed as a potential suspect,” said a police announcement. The investigation is continuing.

A woman who cleans the Springdale Athletic Club at 2 Camp Ave. told police that her vacuum cleaner, valued at $650, was stolen last month. Efforts had been made in-house to find the thief, but that didn’t work, so the matter was reported to police on Monday, Aug. 17. The woman, a longtime employee of the organization, typically cleans early in the morning, and on July 11, she showed up at 4:45 a.m. She decided not to go into the building that day because she saw another employee parked there, and she told police she didn’t trust him.
