Jayne Sutton, a Darien resident for 55 years, died peacefully at home on March 14, 2022. She was 98 years old. Jayne is survived by her daughter Leslie L. Sutton of Darien. She was predeceased by her son Scott T. Sutton in 2002 and her husband Thomas Sutton, former chairman of Dover Corporation, in 2004. Jayne was born in Cincinnati in 1923 and was the daughter of Charles and Antoinette Harrington.

Pam Heberton passed away quietly at home in the loving arms of her husband, daughter, and son on Sunday evening, March 6, 2022. This ended her long battle with lung cancer, which she fought with her typical inner strength and determination. Born in New York City in 1958, Pam was the loving only child of Harold and Alice Martin. Pam grew up in the shadow of the George Washington Bridge on Cabrini Boulevard until she moved to Darien in the early 1970s. Her mother’s family were longtime residents of Norwalk and Pam often recounted visiting her grandmother’s small farm there and gathering eggs for the family.

Hans Thilmany, 94, a Voracious Reader Who Loved Skiing, Sailing and Pear Tree Point

Hans Thilmany, aged 94, died in his Darien home, where he lived since 1965. Hans was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1927, the only child of Rudolf and Marie (née Ginsburg) who met as classics students at Freiburg University shortly after World War I.

His parents left Weimar Germany in the mid-20s to live in then-exotic Istanbul, but briefly returned to Germany when Hans’ maternal grandfather, a prominent Jewish doctor at one of Frankfurt’s hospitals, insisted on his birth taking place in Germany. Hans and his family enjoyed cosmopolitan Istanbul, where he was raised and attended both Turkish and French schools. Summer months were spent in Moda, then a village on the Sea of Marmara, where at an early age Hans learned to swim and sail, his lifelong passions. As a teenager he skied on Mount Ararat with classmates, another sporting passion.

James Bailey Laughlin, longtime resident of Darien and Fishers Island, New York, died peacefully on Jan. 25, 2022, three weeks before his 90th birthday. He was the devoted husband of Eleanor W. “Susie” Laughlin for 65 years and father of Laura L. Johnson, Tim, Ann, Tom and Chris Laughlin. Jim was born on Feb. 13, 1932 in Paris to Thomas and Louise Laughlin, and grew up in Manhasset, New York and Aiken, South Carolina.

Helen was born on July 29, 1922 to Harold and Dorothy Schubert in Madison, Wisconsin. Helen loved music. After playing the cello in her childhood, she focused on singing.

Sharon Joy Workman died peacefully on Nov. 8 at her residence at the Edgehill Retirement Community in Stamford surrounded by her children. She was 91. She was born on May 20, 1930 in Louisa, Kentucky, the second child of Jessie B. Adkins and Charlie B. Workman. She was formerly married to the late Joseph P. Corsiglia, with whom she had four children:  J. Patrick, Jr. (Christina) of Lake Forest, Illinois, Dr. Joan Breen (Andrew) of North Hampton, New Hampshire, James G. (Christine Gottlieb) of Brooklyn, New York, and Cynthia (Ali C. Höcek) of New York City.
