Darien Fifth Grader’s Essay Wins First Place in Both State and Northeast DAR Contests

Brady Eldredge, who last February won the fifth-grade essay contest organized by Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution with his writing on the “Women’s Suffrage Campaign,” has won first place in the Connecticut DAR essay contest. The Hindley School fifth grader also recently was named winner of the Northeast Division DAR fifth-grade essay contest. Thirty-six years ago, when Brady’s father, Jay Eldredge, was in fifth grade, he, too submitted an essay in the DAR contest and won honorable mention. Jay Eldredge was also a Hindley School student when he wrote that essay.

Katherine Love, regent of Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was elected Connecticut State DAR treasurer for 2019 to 2022 on Saturday, April 13, at a CTDAR state conference. She was elected as a member of the Hendrie Associates slate at the 126th CTDAR State Conference held at the Red Lion Hotel in Cromwell. Katherine joined the DAR in 2006 and has been active in the organization at both the local and state levels. At the Darien chapter, she has been regent, vice regent and 2nd vice regent. She initiated a Chapter Project to fundraiser, erect and dedicate the first endorsed DAR Marker in celebration of the NSDAR 125th anniversary in September 2015.

Fifth Grade Essay Contest Winners Announced by Darien Daughters of the American Revolution

The Darien chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution on Tuesday announced five awards in this year’s Fifth Grade D.A.R. essay contest. All participants are fifth grade students in the Darien school system. First place winner is Brady Eldridge of Hindley School; second place is Alexis Procopion (Royle); third place is Matthew Li (Hindley); honorable mention winners are Catherine Young (Tokeneke); and Luli Escajadillo (Ox Ridge). — an announcement from the Good Wife’s River Chapter of the DAR

The first place essay will be entered into the state competition. Participants from Darien’s Good Wife’s River Chapter of the DAR have won first place at the state level three times.
