If you’re going to steal food, why not lobster tails and steak? That’s the surf & turf loot that a 52-year-old man is accused of taking from Whole Foods Market. Darien police described his actions with this account (including accusations not proven in court):

Daniel Horowitz, who’s last known address was on Park Street in Stamford, but who was said to have moved from there, ordered $94.34 worth of porterhouse steaks from the meat department at the 150 Ledge Road supermarket at about 6 p.m. on May 15. He then moved on to the seafood counter, where he ordered eight lobster tails priced at a total of $87.92. Horowitz then walked through the produce department and out of the store, but not without a store employee noticing and following him outside.

Police: Man, 46, Admits ‘Did a Dumb Thing’ Shoplifting $39 Salad Tongs

When a police officer asked him what happened, the 46-year-old man, who was found in his parked vehicle not far away from the scene, said, according to police, “I was stupid. I did a dumb thing.” The man, who lives in Stratford, had been in the At Home in the Heights store at 300 Heights Road when a store employee saw him put salad tongs priced at $39 in his back pocket and leave the store without paying, police said. Police gave this further account (with accusations not proven in court):

A store employee followed the man outside the store and confronted him, asking him to give back the tongs. He gave them to her.

Brooks Brothers Bandit Absconds with Nine Pairs of Shoes

Arriving by taxi at the Brooks Brothers store at 987 Post Road and carrying a reusable shopping bag, a thin man with a penchant for free footwear walked all around the store on Jan. 22, according to police. When he walked out, it was with nine pairs of shoes — with five of those pairs worth $1,120, police said. He left in the waiting taxi. The same man is suspected of stealing from the Brooks Brothers store in Westport.
